The RIF Institute for Research and Transfer, Dortmund, was founded in 1990 as an association of university teachers from various technology-oriented university departments as the "Dortmund Initiative for Computer Integrated Manufacturing (RIF e.V.)" to stimulate research transfer. As one of the Johannes Rau Research Institutes of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, RIF develops findings from basic research in projects in an interdisciplinary and application-oriented way so that they can be used by companies in practice.
